Settling into Nursery

Starting nursery is an exciting milestone for both you and your child, but we also understand that it can be an emotional journey.

A new environment and new faces can take a little time to get used to, which is why we’re here to make the transition as gentle and reassuring as possible.

Our settling-in sessions are non-chargeable and start up to 4 weeks before your start date. They provide an opportunity for your child to explore their new surroundings, get to know the people who will be caring for them, and begin to feel at home.

During their settling-in sessions, your child will have the opportunity to:

Become familiar with the nursery environment and daily routines
Begin building positive relationships with their key person and educators
Explore, play and gradually grow in confidence
Feel safe, supported and reassured as they adjust to their new surroundings

Settling-in sessions are also a valuable opportunity for you to share important information about your child. Getting to know their routines, preferences, interests and individual needs helps us provide the very best care and support from day one.

Your first session

Your second session

During your child’s first settling-in session, we ask you to stay at nursery to help your child begin to feel safe and comfortable in their new environment.

You’ll meet your child’s allocated key person and spend some time completing important settling-in paperwork together.

The session will last approximately one hour.

Your second session

You’re welcome to stay and play with your child. If your child appears settled, you may briefly step out to help them begin adjusting to the environment.

The session will last approximately one hour.

Your third session

This session will serve as a ‘trial run’ for your child’s first full day. We encourage you to leave your child during this time, helping them build independence and confidence in the new environment.

The session will last approximately one hour.

We can offer an additional session if your child would like some extra time to settle in.
