Welcome to our award-winning and very popular day nursery, conveniently nestled within the picturesque grounds of Wootey Infant School. We have close links with the infant and junior school, ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition for our children when it's time for them to start school. We offer childcare for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
We are open 51 weeks a year, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. We only close for one week between Christmas and New Year.
At our day nursery, we believe in fostering structure and free play to facilitate the learning and development of our children. Through planned guided activities and independent exploration, we encourage each child to become confident in preparing for school life.
Our approach ensures that each child feels valued and supported, allowing them to thrive and grow at their own pace.

We are already pretty full for Winter 2026! (Yep, that's 2026). Crazy, we know!
We are opening a brand-new baby day nursery in April 2025, specially designed for children aged 6 months - 2 years.
Due to limited availability in our Explorers room, we can only accept children who are 12 months and under at the time they start with us.

We've crafted exciting spaces for toddlers aged 2 - 3 years, fostering curiosity and exploration through structured play and routine.
Our toddlers have free-flow play to their outside garden.
Our Pre-School Room is designed for children aged 3- 5 years, offering a stimulating environment that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Our carefully curated activities and learning materials are geared towards preparing your little one for a seamless transition into school, ensuring they develop the essential skills needed for their lifetime. They have free-flow play to their outside garden.
One of the highlights of our nursery is our enchanting outdoor facilities, featuring two secure play areas.
We encourage seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, enabling our little ones to freely explore and engage in play.
As a fortunate member of the Wootey family, we have the privilege of accessing the school grounds, allowing our children to observe and be inspired by the "bigger" children at play.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in England sets the basic statutory framework for early childhood education and is what government-funded childcare covers.
Sadly, this alone is not enough to fully prepare children for school or life beyond. That’s why First Friends goes beyond the minimum EYFS requirements.
We provide a Premium Package.
Government funded children are asked to pay £1.20 per hour for our Premium Package.
This additional charge helps us continue providing these valuable experiences, and our families choose to contribute because they see the benefits for their child.

We believe that every child’s voice matters. That’s why we’ve created our very own Children’s Committee—a special initiative that empowers children to share their ideas and make their dreams come true! Each month, a new group of children joins the committee, ensuring that everyone has a chance to be heard.
