We have a dedicated team of qualified professionals who possess the expertise and compassion required to nurture and empower children with additional needs.
At First Friends, we understand the importance of providing dedicated support to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our SENDco team comprises of qualified professionals who possess the expertise and compassion required to nurture and empower children with additional needs.
Here's a closer look at our role and the services we provide:
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities can impact various aspects of a child's development, including behaviour, socialisation, attention span, physical abilities, and communication skills. Our SENDco leads are trained to recognise and address these challenges effectively, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
The SENDco team:
We have a SEND lead at each of our four nurseries and a Group SEND lead.
Our group SEND Lead offers overarching support to our individual SENDco leads. Together, they collaborate with external agencies, facilitate funding applications, and oversee the implementation of Individual Education Plans and Education, Health, and Care Plans.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and provide tailored support for children under 5, including written progress checks, health assessments, and personalised transition booklets. Additionally, we make reasonable adjustments and offer specialised equipment to create an inclusive learning environment, such as peanut balls, weighted blankets, and sensory items.
Our SENDco leads actively engage in monthly meetings to discuss strategies for supporting children with special educational needs. We've also established 'special time' areas in each setting, where children can receive targeted support or take a moment to self-regulate.
