About our nursery

Welcome to our very popular and highly-rated nursery school in Chineham, Basingstoke. Our nursery is in the Scout's building on Hanmore Road.

Our location holds great convenience for families, as we are near local schools. Many parents and children find it convenient to walk to our nursery while dropping off or picking up older siblings.

For those who prefer to drive, we offer a spacious car park for hassle-free drop-offs and pick-ups.

At our nursery school, we believe in fostering structure and free play to facilitate the learning and development of our children. Through guided activities and independent exploration, we encourage each child to become confident in preparing for school life and beyond.

Each member of our dedicated team has extensive expertise in early childhood education and has been an integral part of our team for many years. They bring a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience to create a warm and engaging environment for your little ones.

Our Nursery Rooms

The Explorers (toddlers) - where little adventures begin!

Here, toddlers have a wonderful space to learn, play, and explore with their friends. Our room encourages hands-on discovery, while a cosy corner invites enchanting story time moments.

We have free-flow into our toddler outside garden.

We can take up to 12 children aged 16 months - 3 years.

The Inventors (Pre-school) - a growing space for growing minds!

Our nursery school boasts a spacious main room, providing ample space for various activities, with break-out spaces for quieter pursuits and focused learning. For children aged 3 years - 5 years.

We also have lots of outdoor space to explore.

What will my child eat?

At First Friends Nursery, food is so much more than what’s on the plate — it’s an opportunity to nurture lifelong healthy habits.

We involve children in every stage of the food journey — helping them prepare food and allowing them to self-serve.

We currently serve breakfast, a morning snack, and an afternoon snack. Currently, children who are with us from 12noon need to bring a packed lunch.

Starting in September 2025, we will be trialling the provision of packed lunches.

What will my child learn?

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in England sets the basic statutory framework for early childhood education (from birth to 5 years old). This alone is not enough to fully prepare children for school or life beyond.

That’s why First Friends goes beyond the basic EYFS requirements. We provide a Premium Package, which is what makes us the nursery of choice for many families in the local area.

We have our own enhanced curriculum, which includes: Earth Explorers, Thoughtful Food and Movement & Mindfulness, Makaton, and home-learning programmes.

Safety & Security

At First Friends Basingstoke, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do

All staff undergo enhanced DBS checks and receive regular training in child protection, first aid, and health and safety.
Our nursery features secure entry systems, strict hygiene routines, and regular safety audits to ensure a safe, clean environment.
Our designated safeguarding lead, Faye, oversees child protection, and robust reporting procedures are in place.
Internet access is strictly monitored, and families can opt in or out of our photography policy.
We maintain Ofsted-recommended child ratios, with management always available to support as needed.
