We are an award-winning, small family-run day nursery providing premium childcare and support to babies aged 3 months to pre-school. Open 51 weeks of the year, 7.30 am-6 pm. We proudly accept government-funded childcare places.
No one says it better than our families!
Our newly renovated day nursery in the heart of Barford St Martin offers so much more, that we had to give it its very own website! Nestled in this picturesque village, our nursery is more than just a childcare setting—it’s a cherished part of the community.
Once the village Infant School, our beautiful nursery blends history with a modern, nurturing environment for babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. Come and explore everything we have to offer! Click below to visit our new website and see why families love our award-winning care.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in England sets the basic statutory framework for early childhood education and is what government-funded childcare covers.
Sadly, this alone is not enough to fully prepare children for school or life beyond.
That’s why First Friends goes beyond the minimum EYFS requirements. We provide a Premium Package.
We take immense pride in our team of educators. Their exceptional skills, compassion and commitment are the primary reasons why families consistently choose us over other day nurseries.
All of our team are 100% First Aid Trained, too!
Each child will have a designated key person responsible for their development and daily communication with families, ensuring individual care at all times.
Our day nursery offers half-day sessions (8am-1pm or 1pm-6pm or full-day sessions (8am-6pm). We also offer optional early drop-offs from 7.30am. In pre-school, we offer term-time places too!
Our day care nursery is open 51 weeks of the year; only closed for 1 week between Christmas and New Year and Bank Holidays.
You can book a minimum of two half days or one full day per week.
We welcome new families under the ‘stretch’ government funded scheme, which means you can spread the funded hours over 51 weeks of the year, which equates to 11 hours per week (15 hours, term-time) or 22 hours per week (30 hours, term-time).
We do offer term-time only in pre-school/ and or 9am-3pm sessions, but these places are limited.
Government funded children are asked to pay £1.20 per hour for our Premium Package. For example, if you are using 11 hours of Government funding per week, you'll be charged an additional £13.20 per week, invoiced monthly.
All our meals are freshly prepared each day, ensuring your child enjoys wholesome, home-cooked food.
We provide a full daily menu, including breakfast, a morning snack, a hearty two-course lunch, an afternoon snack, and a delicious two-course tea.
With our self-serve approach, children can enjoy as much as they like—whether that’s seconds, thirds, or just a little taste of something new.
We cater for all food allergies and intolerances, so every child can enjoy mealtimes safely and confidently.
At First Friends, no child ever goes hungry—just happy, well-fed, and ready to explore the day!
